Once you're familiar with the tactical steps needed to increase your vacation rental website's search ranking, it's time to implement your learnings and track your improvement. But what should you expect? And how long will it take to see results?

When creating your SEO strategy, you’ll probably want to know what the target opportunity looks like. For example: how many visitors are searching each month in your destination for rentals? How often do they click and (perhaps most importantly) how often do those clicks turn into bookings?

While this is highly dependent on the destination (there’s less search volume for Wabash, Indiana than Miami, Florida), it’s likely that you can generate 1,500-5,000 visitors per month from organic search. With just a 2% conversion rate of website visitors to leads, this could mean an extra 30 or more leads per month for your vacation rental properties.

You may have to edit or adjust these estimates for your destination. But you can use our keyword research process to find the search volume for popular keywords you want to rank for in Google. If a keyword gets 1,000 searches per month, ranking in the first position can drive anywhere from 100-300 visitors to your website.

How will I know if I'm doing well?

Success is relative! If your goal is to build a stronger direct business or diversify the sources that you earn bookings from, you may want to set a goal to get 10% of your bookings from organic search traffic in the first year. After the second year, you can slide that goal up to 15% and so on.

How long will it take to see results?

Once you’ve done the work to nail down the basics, you’re probably eager to wait a day or two and see results...right? Well, it’s going to take longer than a few days to see results, but the effort is worth it!

Typically making progress with SEO is measured in months, not weeks or days. It often takes anywhere from 3-6 months to see solid progress with organic traffic.

Here’s our average timeline with realistic steps for seeing strong SEO traffic:

Month 1

Month 2

  • Research content and topics to add to your website
  • Set up Google My Business to get a map pack listing
  • Write 2-3 pieces of new content/blog posts on your website
  • Start reaching out to local business owners who can link to you

Month 3

Month 4-6

  • Outreach to local media websites and research competitor mentions on the web
  • Write 1-2 long-form competitor guides or other in-depth information to promote
  • Write 2-3 pieces of new content/blog posts on your website

At this point, you should have created a small library of content on your website and built-up authority through your link building. It’s completely possible to go from zero visitors per month from organic search to thousands following this timeline and steps.

While this strategy takes time, patience and persistance, following our plan will increase your standing in search rankings and drive more leads to your site. The results you see will be well worth the effort you put in!
