Last Minute Holiday Booking Tips

Thanksgiving PorchHappy Thanksgiving from all of us at MyVR! We hope you’re enjoying the day with your family and friends, giving thanks for all of the wonderful things in your life, including a booked vacation rental.

Wait, you haven’t booked your vacation rental yet? Well, what are you waiting for? It’s not too late to book up this holiday season at your rental.

If you’ve still got availability for 2012, here’s some tips to fill up your calendar this holiday season.

1. Offer a promotion

While it may be too late for some travelers to book flights for a long holiday vacation, it’s not too late for local or nearby guests to take a last-minute getaway. At this point, it’s time to decide whether you’d rather offer a discount on your rental, or risk that it goes unoccupied for the holiday season.

2. Update your listing title and description

Change the title to show that you have availability over the holidays. Specifically indicate which holidays are vacant to attract last-minute travelers.

3. Send an email to past renters

If you’re not already sending regular newsletters to your guests, now is the time to send an update on your home.

4. Update your social networks

Let friends and family know you are looking for referrals. If you really want to motivate them to help you find renters, offer a referral bonus for new bookings.

5. Run a Craigslist ad

Include details specific to your upcoming availability. Instead of creating a generic ad, target the specific type of renter that is likely to book during this period. Highlight your homes amenities and local attractions that will appeal to them and include pertinent policies up front (i.e. no pets, minimum stay, etc.) to streamline the booking process.

  1. Google ad mentioning availability for the holiday season works well too and is quite cost effective.
